2018 Updates

  • Electronic filing for individuals begins even later this year: January 29. The IRS will not accept personal returns until that time, no matter who or where prepares them. We can prepare your taxes beforehand and have them ready to go! Don't wait—call now for an appointment!
  • Don't forget: If you purchased your health insurance through the Marketplace (, you must have your Form 1095-A to prepare your tax return! You can log into your account at and print it. If it isn't figured on your return, the IRS will not process your return!

ACA Penalty Waivers

The IRS will not allow the option on your return to refuse to pay the ACA penalty as it did last year. Copied directly from the IRS site:

  • "Executive Order 13765 was issued on January 20, 2017, and directed federal agencies to exercise authority and discretion available to them to reduce potential burden. However, legislative provisions of the ACA are still in force until changed by the Congress, and taxpayers remain obligated to follow the law and pay what they may owe. Taxpayers should continue to file their tax returns as they normally would."

Use this tool to see what some of the waivers are—one of the most common is a utility shut-off notice. You must apply through to get a waiver number to put on your tax return. We cannot do this for you: YOU must apply for this before you do your return.
